FIPS
An encrypted mesh across any medium.
FIPS—the Free Internetworking Peering System—is a self-organizing, encrypted peer-to-peer mesh. It connects peers over different kinds of transport, giving applications a network that can take more than one path.

Different transports. One mesh.
FIPS supports transports including Bluetooth, Ethernet, UDP, Tor, and serial links. Connections are encrypted between peers, with encryption at each hop. Existing IP applications can use its network interface.
Grown from TollGate
FIPS emerged from TollGate’s networking work. Its early prototype was developed during SEC-05. During SEC-07, the work expanded into Android nodes, endpoint discovery, routing research, learning tools, and more.
A network that organizes itself
Peers discover one another, form links, and reroute as the network changes. Identity comes from locally generated keys. The aim is connectivity that can grow wherever peers can exchange packets.
