Nostr
A shared language for open networks.
Nostr is an open protocol for publishing and exchanging signed messages through relays. People use cryptographic keys as their identity, so applications can share a common foundation without sharing one central operator.
Keys, clients, and relays
A client signs an event with your key and sends it to relays. Other clients request events and check their signatures. Relays store and deliver messages; your identity comes from your key. You can publish to several relays and use different clients.
More than a social feed
The same event format can support many kinds of applications. Blossom uses Nostr keys to authorize file operations. Nsite uses events to describe websites. Zapstore applies this shared identity layer to software distribution.
A foundation for building together
For our cohorts, Nostr is common ground: builders can connect new ideas to existing identities, applications, and infrastructure. Explore the related projects to see the different directions that work can take.
